A Cherry Picking Scoundrel
Today was the perfect day for cherry picking. Ok, it was slightly by accident that was so perfect. But when the stars align for you — you enjoy every moment. And that’s just what we did.
After Evie’s nap, we headed up to Walter’s Fruit Ranch on Greenbluff. It was a weirdly cool day for July — the temperature hovered in the high 70s. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky. And the ranch was unusually quiet. I’m used to the chaos of fall apple picking. Instead it was like we had the place to ourselves.
It was a delightful surprise.
We played around for a bit — climbed on the old truck and tractors, baa’ed and laughed at the sheep, played with the corn hole boards — and then we took the tractor ride over to the cherries and got to work. Well, Aaron got to work. He picked while I supervised and Evie ate.
And ate.
And ate.
The kid loves cherries. We could barely get the pits out fast enough for her greedy little fingers. By the end, her hands and face were stained red. And Aaron probably thought I wasn’t a great supervisor. But a great supervisor cares about morale and Evie was happy as a clam.
