An Afternoon at Fish Lake

Aaron and I have never been very outdoorsy. Mostly because nature seems to physically attack us as soon as we step outside. Seriously. I’m weirdly allergic to mosquitoes (think bites that swell up like a softball). Aaron’s allergic to just about every plant that produces pollen and seems to always get stung by bees. Not to mention our pale skin crisps up when there’s just an inkling of sunshine.

But things change when you have a toddler demanding to go outside as soon as she wakes up. We’ve had to change our climate-controlled ways. Now, we stock up on sunscreen and bug repellant, pack a few bags and venture out.

Recently, we met some friends at Fish Lake. It’s only about 30 minutes from our house. Neither of us had been there before and it was Evie’s first time swimming in a lake.

We were all pleasantly surprised.

Fish Lake is small. So small that there really aren’t any boats to worry about. They have a nice swimming area, basketball court, play structure and grills. We found a shaded area, spread out blankets and spent the afternoon alternating between playing in the water, snacking and scouring the area for balls (Evie’s obsessed with them right now and can spot them a mile away).
